Swansea City has proven that fortunes in football can shift quickly. After a rough patch of five consecutive defeats, the Swans have turned their season around with five wins in seven matches.
The revival began on December 6, when Swansea defeated Oxford, setting the stage for a resurgence that continued with a thrilling New Year’s Day victory over West Bromwich Albion, thanks to Jay Fulton’s spectacular late goal.
Before this resurgence, Swansea had only managed to stay out of the Championship’s bottom three due to goal difference. Their win over West Brom in the return fixture has lifted them to 16th place, eight points clear of the relegation zone and just eight points from the top six.
Matos Focused on Process, Not Targets

Instagram | @swansofficial | Vitor Matos stresses that constant development is key to navigating football’s swings.
Head coach Vitor Matos acknowledges the ups and downs of football, emphasizing that the team’s focus must remain on consistent improvement.
“That’s football, it can change pretty quickly and we know as well that it can change still,” Matos said. He stresses the importance of following a structured process and making steady progress rather than reacting to the league table.
Since taking charge, Matos has revitalized a team that struggled under former manager Alan Sheehan. Despite their improved league standing, he has made it clear that targets will not be reassessed yet.
“In two days, we play against Millwall. We will try to find the best squad and the best 11 to start the game. We need to play every game like a final,” Matos explained, highlighting the focus on immediate challenges rather than long-term ambitions.
Swansea’s recent form demonstrates how quickly momentum can shift in football, with disciplined preparation and strong leadership playing a pivotal role. The team now heads into the Millwall clash determined to maintain their upward trajectory and continue building consistency.
